About the art classes
Art materials we use
The Art Classes are designed to be fun and experimental. Each week we experiment with different art materials and techniques. Besides the more traditional art materials we use, like watercolours, clay, charcoal, pastels etc, we also explore other types of eco and natural art materials, like teas, paint making with natural pigments, natural inks and bamboo reed pens.
Seasonal Themed
Each term we create artwork and use art materials that is relevant to the season. For example in Autumn we may paint Autumn trees and gumnuts with the more grounding earth pigments and charcoal. In Summer we may paint or draw sunflowers or water themed artworks with plant and flower pigment inks or watercolour paints and pencils.
Art Show
At the end of each Art Class we do Art show, where I ask the children questions like “Which tree looks like an Autumn tree?” or “Which tree is blowing in the wind?”. These questions help the children see beauty in their artwork that they may not have seen before, and helps them to realize that there is no good or bad artwork. Art show is a fantastic way to help children enjoy the process, without worrying too much about how their artwork will come out.
